An associate degree can be received as a precursor to a bachelor’s degree. Also, many students pursue associate degrees to bolster their professional skill sets and obtain employment in fields that require such a degree.
After completing a college degree, a student may wish to pursue a graduate degree. The first level of such study is called a master. Students can earn this title after completing approximately two years of study when taking a full load of credits.

Engineering is a profession that integrates science and mathematics with design and laboratory study. It is and will continue to be the profession upon which the United States depends for its growth and ability to compete in world markets.
“Engineering offers more career options than any other discipline. It’s a profession that can take you from the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of outer space, from within the microscopic structures of the human cell to the top of the tallest skyscrapers. Whether it’s cell phones, digital cameras, DVDs, or facial recognition devices that can pick out a terrorist in a crowded football stadium, engineers are behind almost all of today’s exciting technology. Engineers are problem solvers who search for quicker, better, and less expensive ways to use the forces and materials of nature to meet today’s challenges.”1...

The Wilderness Education program at Lake Tahoe Community College offers academic field courses across the Sierra Nevada. Our courses challenge students to learn not only from books but also from the natural landscape. Because learning and living are integrated with the field, our courses provide the opportunity for both intellectual and personal growth. We seek students with a curiosity about the natural world, a willingness to work hard, and the ability to travel and study cooperatively in an outdoor setting.
The Wilderness Education degree or certificate is designed to prepare students to become theoretically and technically competent wilderness specialists who can apply their skills as outdoor leaders to diverse groups and environments in a world with a growing population and finite wilderness resources. The curriculum provides a balanced foundation for all aspects of wilderness education/outdoor recreation. Students will gain basic competencies in outdoor-based activities, wilderness first aid skills, experiential educational theory, group dynamics, leadership theory and skills, and environmental awareness. There is an emphasis on the integration of academic work and technical field skills. The completion of the major is appropriate for students who are outdoor-oriented and who seek individual enrichment and growth....

Engineering technicians prepare technical drawings and plans used by production and construction workers to build everything from manufactured products such as toys, toasters, industrial machinery, and spacecraft to structures such as houses, office buildings, and oil and gas pipelines. Engineering technicians’ drawings provide visual guidelines, show the technical details of the products and structures, and specify dimensions, materials, and procedures. Most engineering technicians use computer-aided design (CAD) systems to prepare drawings....

Snow College continues to offer the Associate of Pre-Engineering (APE) degree to students who plan to transfer to a university and pursue a baccalaureate degree in any of the traditional fields of engineering. This two-year degree requires an emphasis of coursework in engineering, mathematics, and physical science, with fewer general education requirements than the Associate of Science (AS) or the Associate of Arts (AA) degree. It is anticipated that a student will also earn an AS degree while at Snow College, but additional coursework will be needed to complete the balance of general education requirements for that degree.
Students who complete an emphasis in engineering at Snow College will be expected to demonstrate that they have a working knowledge of the theories and principles of physics in the areas of Newtonian mechanics, gravitation, electricity and magnetism, wave motion and physical optics; are acquainted with standard methods of mathematical analysis including trigonometry and analytic geometry, differential and integral calculus, matrices and linear algebra, and the solutions to differential equations; understand the role of chemistry in our physical and biological environment as it pertains to atomic and molecular structure, the laws of thermodynamics and how energy is exchanged between systems; can work effectively in a group to accomplish an objective, and make a significant contribution to its outcome; can combine the knowledge of physics and chemistry, together with the analytical skills of mathematics to find solutions to technical problems that benefit society; can use the computer to store and...

ASSOCIATE OF SCIENCE FORESTRY EMPHASIS
The Associate of Science degree, with an emphasis in Forestry, provides students with an introduction to the technical and scientific knowledge related to the field of forestry and forest management. This set of classes satisfies the requirements for an Associate of Science degree and also meets the lower division requirements at Oregon State University (OSU) for a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry. There is a signed articulation agreement with the Forestry Department at Oregon State University that allows students that complete this AS degree and two additional courses to enter OSU as a junior in the Forestry program. Beyond the AS degree requirements, students will need to take the Forest Biology course (FOR 240) from OSU which can be done online. In addition, students will need to take a Physics course which is not calculus based. Currently, SWOCC does not offer that course. The forestry field is projected to have many career opportunities coming up in the next decade as many forestry and natural resources professionals retire in the next few years. If you enjoy working outdoors and want to have a career that focuses on managing our valuable forest lands to conserve and protect resources as well as produce valuable products for society, this is an excellent time to consider this degree. ...
