The Associate in Science in Mathematics for Transfer degree prepares students for careers in mathematics and disciplines where mathematical skills are essential. The problem-solving skills acquired in mathematics are useful for various jobs in fields such as physics, chemistry, engineering, data analysis, finance and business, biology, medicine, computer science, and teaching. This degree includes the following completion requirements:
Completion of 60-semester units or 90 quarter units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University, including both of the following:
The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University General Education-Breadth Requirements.
A minimum of 18-semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district.
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
Apply mathematical concepts to model and solve real-life situations.
Demonstrate an ability to apply mathematical principles using appropriate notation and terminology correctly.
Create, interpret, and analyze visual representations of mathematical expressions.
Students must complete the required courses for their major. General education units, transferable electives, and total degree units will vary for each student. Some considerations include the courses (and their respective units) chosen to complete a general education area or transferable elective. If required, courses for your major also count toward a general education area. Please see your academic counselor help you reach your educational goals.
