What's the Systems Support Foundation Degree (FdSc) - Validated by the University of Salford course about?
This foundation degree is designed to provide the knowledge and skills required to maintain and repair computer equipment and systems. The course is ideal for repair and maintenance professionals (IT technicians/IT service managers), currently in employment, who would like to develop their skills and obtain a higher level qualification, or for anyone who would like to begin a career in repair and maintenance.
Students develop highly technical and specialist skills, in addition to business awareness skills, which are taught at the request of employers involved in the design of the programme.
Subjects studied include:
- Software and hardware maintenance
- Maintenance schedule tasks
- Notebooks, laptops, and PDAs
- Internet applications
- Electronics and digital logic
- Networking essentials
- A+ essentials (CompTIA)
- Network+ (CompTIA)
- ITIL Information Technology Infrastructure Library V3
Assessment makes use of a range of activities, including reports, oral presentations, group work, practical assignments, time constrained tests, peer assessment and live industry briefs.
What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?
The foundation degree prepares graduates for a wide range of careers, including corporate help desk technician, PC repair and maintenance bench technician, PC repair and maintenance field technician and IT services manager.
Upon successful completion of the foundation degree students may progress onto a third year and 'TOP UP' their FdSc to a BSc (Hons) Business Computing with IT (Validated by Salford University).
