Introduction
Fancy yourself as a CSI solving crimes? This one day course will introduce the science behind crime scene investigation. Learn about how forensic scientists can use fingerprints and DNA to solve mysteries through fun interactive practical activities in our purpose-built laboratory. Open to all - no previous science knowledge required.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
Describe how DNA profiling can be used to solve crimes;
Describe forensic toxicology;
Describe forensic pathology;
Define forensic entomology;
Solve basic case studies relating to forensic science;
Carry out practical work safely and effectively in the lab.
This course includes practical work in the science laboratory. You should wear sensible shoes and be prepared to wear a lab coat and tie your hair back if necessary. You will also be required to wear a mask and socially distant during the session.
This fun and the engaging one-day course will take place in our purpose-built Science laboratory. You will learn through a mixture of hands-on practical activities, demonstrations, videos, and discussion. Achievement on your course will be measured by obtaining the learning outcomes above. At the start of the course, you will have an opportunity to set your own personal target for the day, linked to the learning outcomes and any future goals, i.e., progression to a further science course.
