Introduction
Are you interested in working in the mining industry? If so, SIIT’s Mining Industry Pre-Employment program may be your next step.
The 10-week Mining Industry Pre-Employment program is delivered in Regina, Saskatoon, and Yorkton. The program includes classroom training, mine site tours, life skills training, career planning, and safety tickets. Students may also complete a two-week practicum at a mine site.
Graduates of this program can expect to find entry-level employment with various mining companies.
In this ten-week program, students can expect:
A combination of in-class theory (70%) and hands-on practical training (30%). The class is held Monday to Friday, 6 hours per day.
Two-week work placement at a mine site;
No additional independent (homework) learning.
Personal Protective Equipment needed for shop training and employment is provided by SIIT.
Any work-related safety tickets will be included. These vary according to each trade.
Two-week work placements are available for Mining Industry Pre-Employment program students. Students must adhere to attendance and academic performance standards to participate. Students will be required to pass a drug test before a work placement at a mine site.
Graduates of this program can expect to find employment in the mining industry. Mine labourers carry out various general labouring duties to assist in the extraction of coal, minerals, ore, and other services supporting underground mining.
Upon completing their apprenticeship and required industry experience, apprentices may write the Interprovincial Journeyperson Examination and obtain a Red Seal.
