Introduction
Who is this course for?
*Leading to UAL Level 3 Diploma in Music Performance and Production
This course has been designed for students who wish to increase their skills, knowledge and understanding of music production, enabling them to progress to further study and training in a range of music performance and production disciplines.
The qualification will enable students to:
Have a critical and contextual awareness of different perspectives and approaches within music performance and production or related subjects of study or work
Research, analyse and evaluate relevant information and ideas in order to develop creative solutions
Understand, adapt and safely use appropriate and practical methods and skills for creative production
Solve complex problems through the application of practical, theoretical and technical understanding
Critically review the effectiveness and appropriateness of methods, actions and results
Use evaluative and reflective skills in order to take responsibility for own learning, development and decision making
Take responsibility for the research, planning, time management and actions to access progression opportunities
Effectively present themselves and their work to appropriate audiences.
What will I do on the course?
The first year of this qualification is made up of 8 mandatory units. Following successful completion of the Diploma, most students will progress onto the 2nd year and the full Extended Diploma.
All of the units relate to the creative music sector and are delivered through vocational learning with a focus on the skills, knowledge and understanding that enables students to pursue a career in creative media fields.
At the end of the course, students will be assessed via a 'Final Major Project'. This will allow students to demonstrate all of the learning that has taken place through completion of units work.
The 8 units to be completed in the first year of the diploma are:
- Principles of music performance and production
- Critical listening and music composition
- Music industry and professional practice
- Critical and contextual awareness for music performance and production
- Music production in context
- Music performance in context
- Preparation for specialist study in music performance and production
- Collaborative music performance project
The 5 units that will be covered within the Extended Diploma are:
- Developing music performance and production skills
- Exploration of specialist study in music performance and production
- Preparing for progression in music performance and production
- Project proposal for extended project in music performance and production
