The Academy of Interactive Entertainment (AIE) is Australia's most awarded 3D animation, game design and visual FX educator. Created as a non-profit organization to grow the creative digital sector, AIE pioneered the development of specialist game qualifications and continues to innovate through industry partnerships and dynamic teaching. AIE courses are practical, career-focused and delivered by industry experienced teachers in a seriously fun and creatively-demanding studio environment. AIE and it's graduates have won many awards over the years including being named the 2007 Australian Small Training Provider of the Year.
The primary objectives of the not-for-profit Academy of Interactive Entertainment are to:
- Provide accredited public access, Industry sponsored and full commercial courses and programs appropriate to the interactive entertainment industry, including courses in 3D Animation, Computer Programming, Music and Film;
- Provide Incubator courses monitored by appropriate industry providers and customised courses to meet industry demand;
- Encourage the growth of a strong regional industry and foster the expansion of employment opportunities in the industry;
- Undertake research and development activities in association with industry suppliers and commercial developers;
- Foster and promote the development of industry networks and affiliations, both nationally and internationally, and promote the establishment of a Computer Games Developers Association and Conference;
- Assist graduates of the Academy to find work in the industry and employers to recruit trained and qualified staff;
- Form alliances with other institutions, both in Australia and internationally, to promote and develop training for the Industry;
- Foster and promote the development of new and small businesses by offering networking opportunities, mentoring, and office accommodation with a range of support services, and
- Assist and offer residential accommodation to students, Industry participants, tenants, clients and/or employees and owners of new and small businesses.
The Sydney campus is located in the heart of Sydney's games industry, surrounded by both established developers and independent studios. Sydney is also home to Australia's largest visual effects studio, Animal Logic, who routinely hire AIE's highly sought after graduates. Students studying at the Sydney campus are fortunate enough to be surrounded by a thriving games and film community and are provided with many opportunities including networking events, film and games festivals plus industry events.
Melbourne is at the forefront of games development in Australia. Since opening here in 2004, AIE has cemented its place within the local games and visual production industry as the place where studios go when looking for talented artists and programmers. AIE graduates work at all levels across the major studios in Melbourne as well as many international ones and have worked on a huge number of games including the blockbuster Grand Theft Auto IV (GTA IV, Rockstar Games) and the top selling iPhone apps Flight Control and Sims 3.
The AIE Canberra campus is located in Watson, a leafy suburb just to the north of the city centre. AIE Canberra, the first AIE campus, was established in 1996 in response to a demand for 3D games artists and programmers. Our industry experienced teachers have guided students through our courses to employment at every major games and 3D animation studio in Australia as well as a number of internationally renowned companies. Canberra is home to some of the world’s most acclaimed and innovative developers of games, simulation and visualization software along with cutting-edge production studios. We have close links with Uppercut Games Studios and are co-sited with Dreamgate Studios. Our partnership with the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) in the Bachelor of Games and Virtual Worlds Degree course enables students to access a range of resources including extensive libraries, student accommodation and other support services.
AIE Adelaide is our newest campus and offers the latest in game development, game programming, 3D animation and visual effects education in brand new, state of the art facilities. The campus is located in the heart of Adelaide’s CBD, on 32 Grenfell Street (next to City Cross Food Court). The campus neighbours major film and game studios such as Rising Sun Pictures, Six Foot Kid and the Mighty Kingdom. It is a street away from the vibrant Rundle Mall, which is home to some of Adelaide’s best shops, cafes, arcades and attractions.
Our Seattle, WA campus is located in the heart of the city at Seattle Center - right next to the iconic Space Needle. A long-time hub for the video game industry, Seattle is home to studios like Valve, Bungie, and Nintendo of America, along with countless emerging independent game studios. Convenient public transit options, plenty of fun activities, and great restaurants make Seattle Center a great location for our students. Seattle is a thriving city full of things to do! While at Seattle Center, check out the Space Needle, Experience Music Project Museum, or Pacific Science Center. Within easy reach are Pike Place Market, Seattle Art Museum, and the beautiful Seattle Public Library. Branch out just a little further, and explore the International District, Woodland Park Zoo, the Museum of History and Industry, or the Flight Museum!
Our Lafayette, LA campus is located in the Acadiana region, the heart of Cajun and Creole French Louisiana. Our campus is housed in the Louisiana Immersive Technologies Enterprise (LITE) building adjacent to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. LITE is a 3D immersive visualization and high-performance computing resource centre, hosting clients in commercial industry, government and university sectors. AIE’s partnership with the Opportunity Machine (OM) and the Lafayette Economic Development Authority (LEDA) gives us the opportunity to give more life to the growing digital media industry in Lafayette. With its diverse culture, world-famous cuisine and vibrant history, Lafayette is truly a unique city that offers endless opportunities for students to immerse themselves in. With local area attractions like Vermilionville, Acadian Village, Lafayette Natural History Museum, Acadiana Center for the Arts, University Art Museum and the Avery Island Tabasco factory, Lafayette and Acadiana offer something for everyone! Named “Tastiest Town in the South” by Southern Living Magazine, Lafayette boasts one-of-a-kind cuisine with restaurants such as Blue Dog Café, Jolie’s, The French Press and Prejean’s offering Cajun and Creole-style dishes that will send your taste buds on a thrill ride! Lafayette is home to some of the best music festivals in the world such as Festival Internationale de Louisiane, Festivals Acadiens, Latin Music Festival and other events like Downtown Alive, Rhythms on the River and Bach Lunch. Festivals play a key role in the area’s culture and diversity with different festivals happening in the area almost every weekend!
AIE's Online Campus spontaneously burst into existence in late 2012 as a dedicated effort to develop and bring AIE’s Online courses, which have been running since 2005, to a worldwide audience. The Online Campus is staffed by friendly and outgoing people who make every effort to inject the AIE experience into all communication and course delivery. All of our teachers are driven, passionate and experienced educators. Our Administration team is experienced in online correspondence and communication, and we endeavour to get students sorted into the course of their choice as smoothly as possible. We ensure they are equipped with all the required documents via email and software which is posted to each enrolled student. The Online Campus offers a range of courses specialising in the game development, game design, 3D animation and programming. The courses are taught in virtual classrooms via Adobe Connect and there are flexible options for those who are too busy to keep to a study schedule.
